South Asian Discourse in Chinese Academia with Perspective from Nepal
Aneka Rebecca Rajbhandari, Co-founder, The Araniko Project; and Raunab Singh Khatri, Co-founder, The Araniko Project and PhD Student, Peking University
Abstract:
Despite China’s century of establishing academic discipline in the field of Southasian studies, the field has been described as a “cold study” in Chinese academia highlighting the lack of discipline in this field. While country-specific research centers of Nepal, Pakistan, etc. have opened up in China in recent years, existing Southasia as a discipline in China remains largely focused on the study of India. This discussion will shed light on how politics and cultural exchanges have shaped Southasia studies in China, retrospect and prospects of country-specific research centers, and current trends in Southasian studies in China.
About the Speakers:
Raunab Singh Khatri is the co-founder of The Araniko Project and a current PhD student in Organization and Strategy at Peking University.
Aneka Rebecca Rajbhandari is the co-founder of The Araniko Project. She has a degree in Political Science from Peking University.
